About the Project

“It would be truly surprising if sound were not capable of suggesting color. If colors could not give the idea of the melody. If sound and color were not adequate to express ideas.”

John Hurt, Art of Noise – “On Being Blue”

For this project, I have begun to develop a compositional method that allows for some structure in the process of composing music when drawing inspiration from the visual arts. I wanted to explore the relationships between visual art and music, and my hope is that this method will allow enough of a framework to allow for fruitful creative output.

For all of their help and support, I’d like to thank Professor Ozgur Izmirli for being my project advisor, Professors Andrea Wollensak and Steve Luber of the Ammerman Center, my fellow Ammerman Center seniors, and Professors Andrew Greenwald, Midge Thomas, and Mark McCormick of the music department.
